Review: Krispy Kreme - Reese's Peanut Butter Donut

Krispy Kreme's Reese's Peanut Butter Donut is a yeast shell donut with Reese's Peanut Butter Kreme filling dipped in chocolate icing and finished with a chocolate and peanut butter drizzle as well as Reese's mini peanut butter chips and chopped peanuts.

The donut usually goes for $1.29 but I received this courtesy of Krispy Kreme.

The Reese's Peanut Butter Kreme filling hit the right combination of sweetness and peanut butter in the filling of a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, but with a whipped cream-like texture.

The donut encapsulating the filling offered the standard soft and airy crumb but not quite the freshness of an early morning donut.

Up top, the peanut butter drizzle was more peanut buttery, less sweet, and sported a definite salty note. The peanut butter chips delivered more of the creaminess and peanut butteriness of the filling paired with a melty candy feel while the chopped peanuts added a light crunch.

It was the chocolate where the Reese's Peanut Butter Donut feel short; there wasn't much of a chocolaty note to balance out the peanut butter. Maybe mini chocolate chips might have been better here.

When it comes down to it, Krispy Kreme's Reese's Peanut Butter Donut makes for an excellent donut for peanut butter fans and fans of the peanut butter portion of a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. Those looking for the classic chocolate and peanut butter combo might be left wanting.
