Review: Burger King - Ghost Pepper Chicken Fries

Burger King's Ghost Pepper Chicken Fries feature fry-shaped, breaded and fried white-meat chicken seasoned with the spicy heat of ghost peppers.

I paid $4.39 for eight Chicken Fries (they used to include nine to an order although early this year, I paid $4.99 for an order of nine Spicy Chicken Fries.).

My batch of Ghost Pepper Chicken Fries looked to have come recently out of the fryer as they were crispy on the outside and hot and juicy on the inside.

The outer layer was fairly thick but not overwhelmingly so. It had a craggy texture and was flecked with breadcrumbs. It was crispy but not hard. There just a slight reddish tinge to it.

The chicken inside was finely ground with some spring to it.

Flavor-wise, the Ghost Pepper Chicken Fries just tasted like a spicy version of the chain's regular Chicken Fries, which is to say that it seemed to be seasoned with the usual suspects: onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and the like. The flavor was good but also very familiar.

The spicy heat was just moderate with just a slight build as you ate more. It didn't have me reaching for a drink to cool my mouth down or anything. My nose started running a bit but I wasn't sure if it was just from allergies.

Overall, Ghost Pepper Chicken Fries were enjoyably spicy but didn't present much in the way of newness. As with all Burger King's Chicken Fries, I can't shake the feeling that I'm paying more for elongated versions of their chicken nuggets when I buy them (although I do enjoy the packaging). They also put out Ghost Pepper Chicken Nuggets in 2021 that tasted similarly but cost less.
