Review: Arby's - Chicago-Style Beef Dip

Arby's Chicago-Style Beef Dip features thin-sliced roast beef along with banana peppers, fire-roasted red and yellow peppers, Italian seasoning, and Swiss cheese on a toasted sub roll with aus jus for dipping.

I picked one up for $5.59.

For the most part, it's like their French Dip but with a bit more crunch and a bright tang from the banana peppers and some smoky bell pepper notes from the roasted peppers.

As far as the roast beef goes, it was plentiful and sliced paper-thin. There just a little bit of Italian herb seasoning to it. The cheese was fully melted and very mellow.

The roll was soft, airy, and chewy (it reminded me more than a little of an Amoroso roll, which is more a Philly thing). It held up pretty well to being dipped. The au jus was hot and beefy but offered little in the way of nuance.

Does Arby's Chicago-Style Beef Dip remind me of a Chicagoan Italian Beef sandwich? Not really. It's more tangy than sweet, Arby's roast beef lacks that meaty texture, and the Italian herbs don't permeate the aus jus like in an Italian Beef but that doesn't mean Arby's rendition wasn't tasty.
