Review: Taco Bell - Cantina Chicken Burrito

Taco Bell's Cantina Chicken Burrito next to a quarter.

Taco Bell's Cantina Chicken Burrito features a double portion of Cantina Chicken, iceberg lettuce, shredded purple cabbage, Avocado Ranch sauce, Creamy Chipotle sauce, shredded cheddar cheese, and pico de gallo, wrapped up in a warm, grilled flour tortilla. It comes with a packet of Avocado Verde Salsa.

I paid $5.99 for the Cantina Chicken Burrito.

The Cantina Chicken Burrito is a lot like the Cantina Chicken Bowl (which I've also tried) in burrito form but has some slight differences. Namely, the burrito comes with Creamy Chipotle Sauce instead of sour cream and does not include guacamole or black beans.

Compared to the Cantina Chicken Bowl, the Cantina Chicken Burrito felt more balanced. I could taste the chicken and cheese more and could actually taste the cabbage (which could be good or bad depending on how you feel about cabbage).

The chicken was moist and tender with an enjoyable savory flavor. Other prevalent textures of the burrito included the cabbage, lettuce, and flour tortilla.

In terms of flavor, the chicken and Creamy Chipotle Sauce came across well with moderate to mild touches of the other ingredients. Besides the tangy, creamy notes of the two sauces, there was additional tang from the pico de gallo.

With the burrito already containing two different sauces, I'm not sure where the Avocado Verde Salsa fits in. It added a savory avocado flavor with just a bit of tang and heat but there's already a lot going on in the burrito so it was hard to pick out.

Between Taco Bell's Cantina Chicken Burrito and Cantina Chicken Bowl, I preferred the burrito as the various ingredients seemed more proportional and balanced. I could do with one less sauce to better showcase the new ingredients though.
