Frozen Friday: Jose Ole - Chicken Monterey Burrito

Jose Ole's Chicken Monterey Burrito is find in the frozen food aisle and consists of a flour tortilla burrito filled with a mix of chicken breast and thigh meat, green chile peppers, Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese, rice, and various seasoning and spices.

It regularly goes for $1.49 but it's not unusual to find it for less than $1.

Ah, the mighty frozen burrito; the budget food of my high school years. I remember there was this one brand, Tina's that my mom would buy because it was like 3 or 4 for $1 (almost as cheap as Top Ramen!). Jose Ole is slightly more upscale than Tina's (with the fancy chicken instead of a beef/bean slurry), but not nearly nostalgic for me since I've only tried one recently.
Tastewise, the burrito had just a hint of jalapeno spiciness that nipped at the edge of your tongue. Mostly, there's a cheesy, creamy mush of rice and chicken inside tinged with a bit of sour from the green chiles. It's not much to look at (the filling doesn't even barely resemble the picture on the wrapper) but the flavor was good.
My main complaint would have to be that the tortilla was on the dry side and fairly thick for the amount of filling in the burrito. Also, it's a little on the small side; it's fine for me but I think the average eater would probably be able to put away two of these with little problem.

Besides the dry tortilla, Jose Ole's Monterey Chicken Burrito is pretty much on par with what you'd find on Taco Bell's menu except you actually have to microwave it and depending on whether it's on sale, it might actually cost more than Taco Bell.
