Review: Del Taco - Chili Cheese Nachos

Del Taco's Chili Cheese Nachos feature tortilla chips topped with warm nacho cheese, zesty red sauce, and beef chili.

It's part of the Buck & Under menu and cost me $1.

It's a good thing I ordered this for dining in because they forgot the cheese on my nachos and it was easily fixed.

While they describe it as "beef chili," they just took their ground beef and mixed it with red sauce. The red sauce was a slightly spicy, tangy, seasoned tomato-ish sauce, while the ground beef was rather mild and overpowered by the sauce. I wouldn't really call it chili.

The cheese was the requisite combination of warm and creamy, while the chips were unsalted and crispy.

Overall, while I like chili and cheese fine, I didn't really care for the beef "chili" and cheese combination here. The nachos somehow felt like less than the sum of its parts and I would have rather just had the chips, cheese, and sauce with some beans. Between the two new $1 nachos, I prefer the Salsa Verde version.
