Review: Wendy's - Bacon and Blue on Brioche Burger

Wendy's Bacon and Blue on Brioche burger features artisan blue cheese from Wisconsin, blue cheese herb aioli, spring mix, tomato, three strips of thick-cut Applewood-smoked bacon, a quarter-pound beef patty, and a toasted brioche bun.

I bought one for $4.99 (sadly, they forgot the bacon...).

My local Wendy's has been failing me as of late. This is the second time in three or four visits that they've screwed up my order. It's not like they leave out secondary ingredients either; it's been key components (like no pulled pork on my Pulled Pork Cheese Fries...). Anyway, I think I've eaten enough Wendy's bacon to comment on the lack but I'll get to that later on and start with the cheese.

The blue cheese comes in soft, creamy crumbles that tasted more like sharp cheddar than blue cheese. It caters toward the mainstream with very little of that blue cheese pungency. The blue cheese herb aioli echoed the flavor just a bit but mostly tasted like regular mayo.

Beyond the cheese, the spring mix and tomato were relatively fresh and plentiful. With the spring mix, you don't get much, if any, in the way of crispness.

The quarter-pound beef patty had a nice, loose coarse texture to it as well as a good moisture level.

The brioche bun was somewhat hearty and a little dry. It lags behind similar buns offered by competitors like Carl's Jr. and Jack in the Box.

I definitely missed the bacon as the burger mostly relies on the blue cheese for most of its flavor. Wendy's bacon is among the best in the segment and would have definitely added some much needed variety to the burger.

Overall, Wendy's Bacon and Blue on Brioche was good but plays it safe with the blue cheese and comes on a middling bun. The bacon would have helped liven it up a tad, but it would still be somewhat boring.
