A Maple Lover's Dozen (an assortment with all three Maple Glazed Donut varieties) costs $16.99 in my area but I received these courtesy of Krispy Kreme.
The Maple Glazed Donut features the chain's signature yeast ring donut covered in new Maple Glaze. While maple is a common enough donut icing but Krispy Kreme's new Maple Glaze manages to marry the flavors of maple and their signature Original Glaze in a fairly balance manner so you get both notes of maple syrup as well as slightly caramelized Original Glaze. It went very well with the soft, pillowy texture of the fresh donut.
The Maple Glazed Original Filled Maple Kreme Donut takes the Maple Glazed Donut and pumps it full of Maple Kreme, which is creamy and chock full of sweet maple flavor. The overall effect was very sweet and very maple-y but oddly not very donut-like as there's not much donut to go around between the maple glaze and Kreme.
The Maple Glazed Cake Donut is an old-fashioned butter cake donut covered with Maple Glaze and it felt the most muted of the bunch despite the thicker layer of glaze to fill its nooks and crannies. The cake donut portion was yellowish but didn't taste like maple or butter at all. It was very lightly sweetened. Texture-wise, it was moist and dense but didn't have that crispy crust that you want from an old-fashioned donut.
As a fan of maple in general, I found Krispy Kreme's Maple Glazed Donut to be my favorite out of the fall series of Glazed Donuts. I particularly liked the Maple Glazed Donut as it toed a nice line between the maple and Original Glazed flavors without being overwhelmingly sweet. I would point to the Maple Glazed Original Filled Maple Kreme Donut if you want maple, maple, and more maple though.
