Review: Nabisco - Candy Cane Creme Oreos

Nabisco's Limited Edition Candy Cane Oreos are a winter-time version of the famed cookie and apparently can only be found at Target.

I picked up a 10.5-ounce package for $2.99.

The difference between these and regular Oreos are a snowflake design on one side of the cookie sandwich and a half and half red and white creme to mirror the red and white of a candy cane. A striped creme would probably be more candy-cane-ish, but is probably more difficult to achieve. The creme is embedded with little red crunchy sprinkles.

The creme is pretty firm and the peppermint flavor is pretty mellow, but leaves that familiar cool mint feeling on the tongue. It goes well with the dark cocoa flavor of the crispy Oreo wafers.

I don't like licking the vanilla creme off the regular Oreos (although I loved to do so as a kid), but I find the light peppermint flavor here more enjoyable to do so. With the creme's firmness, you could probably stretch each cookie sandwich a fair bit in this fashion.

I didn't notice the crunchy sprinkles much as I chomped down on the cookie. They kinda got lost with the similarly grainy cookie crumbs. You'd have to lick the creme to really get a feel for the sprinkles. Any flavor they add just meshes into the candy cane creme.

Overall, Candy Cane Oreos are really good! The festive design and cool peppermint flavor really puts you in the Christmas mood. I wouldn't mind a stronger hit of peppermint flavor though. Trader Joe's makes a similar product called Candy Cane Joe-Joe's that are even better...
