Review: Dole - Apple Cinnamon Fruit Crisp

Dole's Apple Cinnamon Fruit Crisp is basically a fruit cup of apples with a packet of oat topping to sprinkle on top. It works for yogurt, why not for fruit cups right?

A 8-ounce pack of 2 cups retails for $2.19, but I received this courtesy of Dole.

Like similar yogurt offerings, the lid on each cup contains a sealed and visible portion of oats (which is good for a bit of whole grains in your diet). It took a bit more effort than I would have liked to open the cap, but wasn't terribly difficult. I guess you don't have to worry about the lid falling off if you throw it in your backpack or bag.

I'd advise a little caution opening the oats in the lid as I pulled the foil off a little too hard and dumped a bit onto the table.

The packaging recommends trying these warm so after unsealing it, I popped the fruit cup into the microwave for 20 seconds for some decently warm apples. I'd be careful heating them up too much, unless you want to suffer a burned tongue.

There are really no surprises here and this tastes much like you'd expect if you've ever eaten canned fruit. The apples are cut into fairly small cubes and were warm, soft, and sweet, with a touch of cinnamon.

Rather than sitting in juice, there's less liquid here and its been thickened with starch, giving the whole thing a feel similar to eating apple crisp. Each cup comes with a good amount of oats and you can use as much or as little of them for crunch and flavor.

Overall, Dole's Apple Cinnamon Fruit Crisps are nice and convenient. They provide a little more variety to your fruit cup eating, but aren't anything earth-shattering.
