Review: KFC - Popcorn Nuggets

KFC's Popcorn Nuggets feature bite-sized white meat chicken nuggets with a seasoned, extra crispy breading.

I got a large order as part of a $5 Fill Up meal (with a side, biscuit, cookie, and drink); you can also buy a large order a la carte for $3.99.

These were basically like KFC's previous Popcorn Chicken for the most part. There were a few differences though.

For one, on the whole, the little chunks of chicken (not formed ground chicken) tended to be bigger and longer; some pieces were like mini chicken strips. This didn't mean that there weren't a few nuggets of fried chicken-less batter, but overall, the Popcorn Nuggets were slightly bigger. As a result, they also tended to be more moist than Popcorn Chicken.

The batter looked the same with a relatively thick coat of it on each piece, but it wasn't very crispy and I definitely wouldn't call it "extra crispy." I did notice that the chicken-less batter pieces were the crunchiest but the bigger pieces tended to be mostly soft with an odd edge of crispiness here and there.

Taste-wise, the new Popcorn Nuggets feel the same as the previous version with a fairly noticeable and pleasant seasoned flavor.

Overall, KFC's new Popcorn Nuggets taste good but lack in the texture department due to mostly soft breading. While they tended to be meatier than KFC's Popcorn Chicken, they're still more for people who prefer breading over chicken.
