Review: Wendy's - Mac 'N Cheese

Wendy's Macaroni 'N Cheese is one of three new Signature Sides. It features large macaroni pasta smothered in a cheese sauce that's made with milk, cream and white Vermont Cheddar and American cheese. Shredded cheddar cheese is sprinkled on top.

An order comes in a wide cup for $2.49 and is available for a limited time only. I got this particular order for free courtesy of Wendy's though.

The Sister felt that $2.49 was a bit expensive for what you get. It is the lightest by weight of the new sides but I pointed out that real cheese and cream costs a bit more than the powdered stuff you get when you buy a box of Kraft's. It's a little bigger than a side but not quite as big as an entree.

I was worried the sauce might be a bit to liquidy but it was actually of a thick consistency and clung well to the macaroni pasta. It was creamy, cheesy, and mild.

Wendy's plays it a bit safe with their Mac 'N Cheese; it's solid but it also somewhat vanilla. I think maybe a more distinctive cheese or sharper cheddar would have put this one over the top. Still, it's a bit better than other Mac and Cheese option from other fast food chains.

I wonder if you can get them to crumble some crispy bacon bits in there...
