Review: Starbucks - Cinnamon Roll

Starbucks recently re-introduced Cinnamon Rolls to their baked goods display so I thought I'd give them a try. The new Cinnamon Rolls are pretty standard with pastry dough rolled up with cinnamon and sugar and covered with cream cheese icing.

Buying one cost me $2.45 at a local Starbucks.

I opted to take it home and warm it in a toaster oven, which is basically what they offer to do for you at the store (except their toaster oven is a lot faster than mine).

The outer layer was crusty, but I couldn't really tell if it was supposed to be or if it was just stale. The roll is pretty typical of most cinnamon rolls and a lot like a slightly sweet, warm, dense bread.

The most interesting thing about Starbucks Cinnamon Roll is there's a varied cinnamon flavor to it. There's a little bit more depth and nuance to the cinnamon flavor than the cinnamon you typically use at home.

I liked that the icing wasn't excessive as I'm more a fan of moderation. Those who have a bigger sweet tooth might be disappointed. I think Starbucks struck a good balance with the icing here; there's enough for every bite, but it doesn't dominate the roll.

Overall, a pretty good cinnamon roll. Nothing super fancy, but the cinnamon flavor was especially nice.
