Frozen Friday: Michael Angelo's - Cheese Ravioli

Michael Angelo's Cheese Ravioli is filled with Ricotta and imported Romano cheese and served in a tomato basil cream sauce.

I bought one for $2.99.

Cheese-filled ravioli is pretty plain to me in general and it was no different here. You get the slightly grainy, creamy ricotta inside a soft (but not too soft!) pasta shell that holds onto the sauce quite well.

It was the sauce then, that made Michael Angelo's Cheese Ravioli shine. I was expecting the same tomato sauce (it's great but the dishes start to taste the same) they're known for but this was a delicious creamy sauce with a more subdued tomato character and a solid herby flavor. It's the kind of sauce you want to sop up with bread afterwards.

Overall, Michael Angele's Cheese Ravioli was fairly good. I'm not a huge fan of cheese ravioli (I prefer meat ravoli) but the sauce they chose to pair it with was excellent. I wouldn't mind the sauce with any of their various pastas.
