Bacon Cheddar Cheese Sticks cost $8.49 per order near me but I got it for $7 as part of the recently-introduced $7 Deal Lover's Menu, where the menu items cost $7 when you buy two or more. This is the other review that came out of last month's Reader's Choice poll.
Opening the box, I thought the cheddar melted on top was some sort of sauce initially as it looked a bit liquidy but it was solid enough.
The cheddar imparted an enjoyable toasty cheese flavor to the proceeding, while a good amount of mozzarella on top was enough to deliver a bit of a cheese pull.
The bacon didn't add any crunch but provided the requisite smoky, pork notes.
The bread portion actually offered quite a bit of different textures. The crumb was super soft and moist, while the crust was crispy with extra crunch where the cheese and crust met the side of the pan during baking. However, it seemed that the cheese sticks were baked at a little too low a temperature as the oil seeped into the dough quite a bit, which made it quite oily tasting for a lot of bites. There wasn't a liner on the bottom of the box so you may wish to be careful where you leave it.
The included ranch was mostly tangy and creamy with little in the way of herb notes.
Overall, Pizza Hut Bacon Cheddar Cheese Sticks make for a welcome addition to the menu at Pizza Hut that's fairly enjoyable. The pan pizza crust used to the sticks give them a Pizza Hut-feel, while delivering a moderate amount of flavor to go with surprisingly varied textures.
