Chick-fil-A Opens First-Ever Mobile Pickup Restaurant in New York City

Chick-fil-A just opened the fast food chain's first-ever mobile pickup restaurant in New York City.

The new test concept restaurant only focuses on orders from delivery and mobile apps and, as such, does not offer any seating or dine-in services.

The inside of the new mobile pickup restaurant includes a small waiting area, a digital screen showing ordering statuses, and a pick-up shelf.

The way ordering works at the restaurant is:

  • You place an order for delivery or carryout via the Chick-fil-A mobile app or website.
  • The location will be alerted by geofencing when you're on the way so they can prep the food in time for your expected arrival.
  • Once you get there, you can check the status board to see if/when your order is ready.
  • You pick up your order from the pick-up shelf.

The concept is meant to address the increased demand for takeout and delivery in the fast food industry. Chick-fil-A also expects to test a digital-focused, elevated drive-thru concept later this year in Atlanta, GA. That concept will have multiple drive-thru lines, including ones designated for mobile pickup.
