Review: Devour - Smokehouse Meat & Potatoes

Packaging for Devour Smokehouse Meat & Potatoes.

Devour's Smokehouse Meat & Potatoes frozen meal features white-meat chicken in a sweet & smoky Memphis-style BBQ sauce along with applewood-smoked bacon, smoked sausage, roasted potatoes, corn, and bell peppers.

A 9.8-oz box was $2.99 on sale.

Devour Smokehouse Meat & Potatoes top-down view.

This was most likely the first frozen meal that I've had that felt like more meat than carbs and veggies. There were small pieces of vegetable matter to accompany it but I actually had meat in every bite.

The meat was mostly sausage slices with a few sizable chunks of chicken and some tiny diced bacon. While I followed the instructions on the box, I probably should have heated this up for less time as the chicken was a little on the dry side, while some of the sausages were dried out.

The chicken was very mild in flavor, while the bacon and smoked sausage offered the requisite smoky, salty notes.

The BBQ sauce carried most of the flavor load here with heavy sweet and smoky notes with a light touch of tomato-y tang. It coated the food well and there wasn't so much that everything was swimming in it.

The potatoes and peppers lacked in both the texture and flavor department but the corn made up for it in both categories. I wished they had cut the potatoes into larger chunks for a more robust taste.

My take on Devour's Smokehouse Meat & Potatoes is that I generally liked the meat and potatoes combination but that everything sat under the sweet cloud of the BBQ sauce so that the variances in flavor were somewhat hard to pick out.
