Review: Kroger - Loaded Potato Skins

A box of Kroger Loaded Potato Skins.

Kroger's Loaded Potato Skins are a frozen dish that features a mix of cheddar cheese and applewood smoked bacon sitting atop a potato skin shell.

A 26-oz box was $8.99 on sale (it normally costs $9.99).

The potato skins come frozen in a bag. It looks like the cheese and bacon were mixed together and somehow stuck onto each potato half. Impressively, no sizeable pieces or chunks seemed to have fallen off or separated.

I heated the Loaded Potato Skins in the air fryer and it was a good thing that I checked halfway through the suggested cooking time because, even though the box included instructions, the bacon had already started to char at that point. Fortunately, although it wasn't much to look at, it didn't taste too burnt.

Out of the air fryer, the skin on the potato crisped up nicely while the flesh inside was moist and tender. The cheese melted nicely and exhibited a nice gooey stretch. The bacon was decently meaty with the requisite savory and smoky notes.

The bacon, cheese, and potato combination on its own was classic and enjoyable but, to get the "loaded" effect, I added some green onions and ranch dressing to give it some extra oomph. It's not something I'd want them to add to the mix though. Neither the green onion nor ranch would do well heated with the rest of the potato.

While they require some extra care when cooking according to the instructions on the box, Kroger's Loaded Potato Skins make for a convenient and well-made rendition of potato skins.
