Review: Taco Bell - XXL Steak Nachos

Taco Bell's new XXL Steak Nachos is a massive plate of nachos roughly twice the size of their Nachos BellGrande. On the plate, you can expect to find: plenty of tortilla chips, 4.5 ounces of their revamped steak, nacho cheese sauce, melted cheese blend, guacamole, refried beans, pico de gallo, and reduced fat sour cream.

I picked an order up for $5.99.

With a plate this size, the XXL Steak Nachos is great for sharing with one or two friends. The length of the plate ensures that you're not crowding each other to get at it.

The key differences between this and Taco Bell's regular nachos are the addition of pico de gallo instead of just plain diced tomatoes, and a scoop of guacamole. The pico de gallo is a bit more lively than tomatoes, and the guac is always good with chips.

The new steak feels more like actual steak and has a nicer color to it (I'm guessing it's caramel color though). There's more meat texture to it, but it's not as tender. There's a nice bit of flavor and a wee bit of a kick to it that I only caught when I ate the steak by itself. The spiciness was curiously lost when I ate it as part of the nachos.

I wish there were more cheese on the nachos. Cheese is a nacho essential and there wasn't enough of it in my order. I ended eating some chips with just guacamole or salsa, which is nice, but not very nacho-like.

I'm not sure why the melted cheese blend is there; it doesn't do much and I prefer the nacho cheese. I think the shredded cheese blend is mostly there for aesthetics.

Overall, while there was enough toppings on Taco Bell's XXL Steak Nachos, it wasn't what I would call plentiful. It's still a decent (and quite large) plate of nachos, but at the very high end, price wise, for Taco Bell.

For around the same price, I can get a better plate (with more meat and cheese) at my favorite nachos place. But my favorite nachos place is 20 minutes away and Taco Bell is oh so close and convenient.

  6. Mine came with plenty of chips i think its 3 times the chips because it didnt have much meat or cheese or beans. Correct name should be xxl chips because these have about thr samr amount of topping as the bell grande justsrrounded by chips.

  7. Quantity wise, how does it compare to Del Taco's Macho Nachos?

  8. Couldn't tell you. I've never had Del Taco's Macho Nachos. My local Del Taco turned into a Starbucks years ago. By weight, the Steak Macho Nachos is heavier though!

  9. got the chicken version and ended up with more "goodies" than chips as my Dad would say. These chips in the picture look like the authentic kind you can find in California taco shops on their Carne Asada chip. Mine were fresh, but they were the regular taco bell chip

  10. For $5.99 I can get a nacho 3 times this size from almost any taco shop out here in cali. I guess for those who really haven't had or can't get REAL mexican food, This is the next best thing.

  11. this is probably my biggest pet peeve: people who are snobs about trivial matters. we're talking about fast food here, not fine dining. thank you for chiming in on how great the nachos are in california, that's extremely helpful and relevant to the rest of us in the other 49 states.
