Frozen Friday: Haagen-Daz - Sea Salt Caramel Gelato

Haagen-Daz's Sea Salt Caramel Gelato is definitely for the caramel lovers as it consists of caramel gelato with sea salt caramel ribbons.

I picked up a 14-ounce carton (I want to say pint, but it's not) on sale for $2.99 (regularly $4 to $5).

I was surprised by how easy the gelato was to spoon compared to the ice cream in my freezer. Granted gelato does tend to be the softer of the two, but I figured same temperature, same firmness. The texture is denser (since there's little to no air folded into gelato), but also very smooth and delivers a rich buttery caramel flavor that pairs well with the gelato's creaminess. It's basically caramel in gelato form. I liked that it was sweet but not too sweet as to become tiresome.

The sea salt caramel ribbons are more like small liquid nodules that I occasionally came across while sampling the gelato. It adds a richer note of caramel with a touch of salt. It's pretty nice, but maybe the dispersal could be bit better.

Overall, Haagen-Daz's Sea Salt Caramel Gelato delivers on what you'd expect from a quality caramel gelato. In terms of preference, I like caramel more as a complementary flavor. So, caramel plus more caramel is probably not my favorite flavor, but I wouldn't turn my nose up at it. Of course, if caramel is your favorite flavor (or close to), I definitely recommend giving this a try.
