Review: Taco Bell - Doritos Cheesy Gordita Crunch

Taco Bell's Doritos Cheesy Gordita Crunch features seasoned beef, shredded lettuce, shredded cheese, and Pepper Jack sauce inside of a crunchy Doritos taco shell (choose from Fiery, Nacho Cheese, and Cool Ranch), which is then placed inside of a fluffy Gordita shell whose inner surface is covered in a melted 3-cheese blend.

I ordered the Nacho Cheese version via their new mobile app for $2.69.

Just a little note regarding mobile ordering: it's pretty convenient, especially if you like to peruse the menu before deciding what you want. You order ahead and then just show up either inside or at the drive thru, check-in via the app, and let them know you ordered with the app. They bring up your order, you double check it, and then, "voila!").

Perhaps buoyed by the nacho cheese powder of the Doritos shell, there was a lot of cheesy goodness going on in my Gordita Crunch. If felt like both the shredded cheese in the taco and melted 3-cheese blend had more flavor than usual. Regardless, it was really nice.

The Doritos shell didn't have quite as strong a crunch as Taco Bell's regular taco shell however. I wonder if it would be better with Nacho Cheese Doritos chips.

The pillowy, soft Gordita shell counterbalanced the strong flavor of the nacho cheese powder and the Gordita Crunch tasted better for it.

The lettuce and seasoned beef give it that classic Crunchy Taco taste. I didn't really notice the Pepper Jack sauce much.

Overall, I really liked Taco Bell's Doritos Cheesy Gordita Crunch. Whereas I prefer the classic Crunchy Taco over the overly-busy Doritos Locos Tacos, I prefer this version to the regular Cheesy Gordita Crunchy. The Gordita shell does a lot to balance the flavors out.
