Review: Wawa's - Hot Turkey Gobbler

Wawa’s Hot Turkey Gobbler features turkey smothered with gravy, stuffing, and cranberry sauce all on one freshly baked roll.

I purchased the Shorti (6 inch) version for $4.39.

Upon unwrapping the sandwich, my hands were already covered in gravy. The sandwich suffered from having its wet toppings squished inside its packaging, causing juices to soak the outside of the roll. That being said, the bread was still consistent throughout and managed to somewhat contain the sloppy sandwich.

Starting this year, Wawa offers the Gobbler with cold, oven roasted turkey, but I went for the hot turkey edition and was pleased by the taste. The meat was tender and plentiful, while the gravy ensured that it was moist as well. The stuffing was soft and (like the rest of the sandwich) wet, but provided some heft to the meal. It also served to keep the slippery turkey slices inside the roll.

The most interesting aspect of the Gobbler, however, was the cranberry sauce. Its unique sweetness meshed well with the saltiness of the turkey gravy. There wasn't much to be found but it really pushed this sandwich into “above average” territory for me.

Overall, Wawa’s Hot Turkey Gobbler succeeds at delivering an interesting combination of flavors. While sogginess and sub-par stuffing keep it from perfection, it may satisfy that Thanksgiving craving while you wait for the real deal.
