News: Domino's - New Handmade Pan Pizza

Starting tomorrow, Domino's goes straight at rival Pizza Hut with a new Handmade Pan Pizza crust option. Why the "Handmade" prefix? The new pizza crust will be made from fresh dough in-stores. Apparently, according to USA Today, some Pizza Hut locations use frozen dough for their pan pizzas, so Domino's will be playing up that angle.

Additionally, the new pan pizza promises "toppings all the way to the edge," "crispy golden crust and a buttery taste," and "2 layers of real cheese in every bite."

The move is a pretty big one as Domino's hasn't offered a pan pizza in a long time; previously, the closest offered crust was the Ultimate Deep Dish which I consider to be a pan pizza, but comes at a premium (Note: the Handmade Pan Pizza replaces the Ultimate Deep Dish... Usurped!).

The other Big Three pizza chain, Papa John's, does not currently offer a pan pizza, but has offered the option in the past.

Domino's Handmade Pan Pizza will be offered starting tomorrow at a promotional price of $7.99 for a 2-topping medium-sized pizza.

  1. I just ordered had one with Italian sausage and mushrooms. I rarely eat Domino's pizza and the last time I had a pan pizza from them was 20 years ago. The sauce, cheese, sausage and mushrooms were typical Domino's--sub par at best. The crust was a bit thicker than there usual crust and it had a golden brown bottom. It tasted like a typical Domino's pizza. If you want this style from a chain I would go with Jet's. I rate this a 4/10.

  2. This pizza was terrible. I had a ham and pineapple and was expecting something with a crispy bottom, and some decent flavor, but it was terrible. The crust was basically two regular crusts stacked on to of each other than cooked in a way that there was a very thin crust on the bottom. If you like a 80%, flavorless dough pizza than this is for you. I agree with take your business to Jets or Pizza Hut. Come on Dominos, three strikes and your out.
