Review: Taco Bell - Mountain Dew A.M.

Taco Bell's Mountain Dew A.M. is Mountain Dew soda mixed with Tropicana Orange Juice. You could mix it at home, but if you're at Taco Bell for First Meal anyway, they can provide and mix it for you.

I picked up a 20-ounce large for $1.99 which is the same price as a similar-size cup of plain orange juice at Taco Bell. I really should have gotten the smaller cup. Why do I keep falling for the "for x cents more, you get a lot more beverage?"

Not too much to say about this. I mean, it tastes like Mountain Dew mixed with orange juice. The color is orange yellow (or is it yellow orange? I can never remember) if we're going by Crayola crayons. Anyway, it's yellow tinged with orange.

I would guess the mix to be about 25 to 33% orange juice and the rest Mountain Dew as the soda-juice remains pretty fizzy and tastes mostly like Mountain Dew followed by orange juice (not concentrate I don't think). I will point out that one of the ingredients of Mountain Dew is orange juice concentrate, so, interestingly, it's a bit of orange on orange.

I think the idea is that Mountain Dew gives you an extra hit of sugar and caffeine in the morning (plus Taco Bell's core demographic loves Mountain Dew) and orange juice is a breakfast staple. I can see Taco Bell's key demo going for this, but I'm not a soda for breakfast kind of person and I'd rather go for the coffee or orange juice that is also on the First Meal breakfast menu.

  1. "plus Taco Bell's core demographic loves Mountain Dew" is a fantastic line.

  2. I don't really like soda with my breakfast either (whenever I get breakfast from a fast food place, I generally go with iced coffee), but I'd still be willing to try this just to see how it is. I'd also be curious to know if they could make it with Baja Blast instead of regular Mountain Dew. For some reason it seems like it'd be more fitting.

  3. Is Taco Bell's core demographic hillbillys?
