Frozen Friday - Marie Callender's - Savory Chicken and Rice

Marie Callender's Savory Chicken and Rice is one of their new Comfort Bakes frozen entrees that promises "oven baked taste from the microwave." It features white meat chicken with white & wild rice and vegetables smothered in a creamy mushroom sauce.

A 10-ounce package sells for about $3.69.

While this might feel like it came out of the oven to some, I don't think it makes much of a difference either way. I'm not sure that cooking this particular dish in the oven adds anything other than more cooking time.

The vegetables were lacking here with the occasional pea here and there. It was hard to tell though as there was way too much mushroom sauce.

The rice was moist and fluffy. I couldn't really taste the wild rice though.

The chicken was nice and tender although cut fairly small.

I was not a fan of the sauce though and there was way too much of it here in proportion to the food. It had a sharp saltiness that did not please. I ended up trying to spoon much of it off to the side. It was creamy enough, but I just didn't care for the flavor.

Overall, this meal reminds me of Stouffer's Chicken a la King, but not as good. Most of the ingredients were decent to good for me, but the sauce just overpowered everything else.
