Review: Jack in the Box - Hot Cinnamon Shake

Jack in the Box's new, limited-time Hot Cinnamon Shake features vanilla ice cream and red spicy cinnamon syrup, finished with whipped topping and a maraschino cherry.

A 16-ounce "regular" shake goes for $2.69 at my local Jack in the Box.

Maybe it's the cold weather, but my Hot Cinnamon Shake was thicker than usual and took a bit of effort to draw up the straw. The vanilla base was smooth and creamy. The shake sports a deep pink color (I believe it's supposed to be hot pink) from the syrup.

The whipped topping and cherry was just decoration for me as I don't tend to eat either of them. I usually give the cherry to someone who wants it rather than let it go to waste though.

The vanilla flavor was joined by an enjoyable cinnamon top note that passed into the less enjoyable taste of slightly spicy cinnamon candy. The cinnamon candy flavor was fairly light, but I've never been a fan of cinnamon Jolly Ranchers, Red Hot Devils, Hot Tamales, or the like. On the other hand, if you do like the flavor of hot cinnamon candy, the Hot Cinnamon Shake might not deliver enough of the experience for you.

Overall, Jack in the Box's Hot Cinnamon Shakes is a pleasant blend of the taste of creamy vanilla and hot cinnamon candy. It skirts a fair middle ground between vanilla and hot cinnamon flavors that doesn't offend but might not quite satisfy fans of the candy.
