Review: Hardee’s - Bacon Velveeta Patty Meltdown

Hardee’s Bacon Velveeta Patty Meltdown features chopped applewood-smoked bacon, grilled onions, melted Velveeta cheese, and a Black Angus beef patty on sourdough toast.

I picked up the ¼ lb version for $4.99.

My Bacon Velveeta Patty Meltdown fell short of the promise of being a patty “melt” as my cheese was still solid. However, the use of Velveeta in the sandwich and the presence of mayonnaise still made for a smooth, creamy finish to every bite.

The patty was thick and had a good flavor. The ¼ lb version is the smallest they have but I didn’t find myself wanting for more beef. I did, however, wish the onions played a bigger part. They added only a subtle flavor and a bit of moisture. On the upside, they certainly did not take away from the sandwich.

The star of the Bacon Velveeta Patty Meltdown was easily the chopped bacon. The small pieces made sure that it was present throughout the burger and it was some of the better bacon I’ve had at a fast food place. It was good and salty, not too crisp or chewy, and worked well within the sandwich.

Overall, Hardee’s Bacon Velveeta Patty Meltdown was a good experience throughout. It’s nothing too special but the execution was well done. This is the second menu item on which Hardee’s has included Velveeta cheese and I’m hoping they continue this partnership if it means more food like this.
