Review: MyMochi - Original Waffle Bites

A box of MyMochi Original Waffle Bites.

MyMochi Original Waffle Bites feature maple-flavored "bite-sized, sweet, and ready to eat" waffle bites made with sweet rice-based mochi dough.

A 6.75-oz box carries a suggested price of $5.99 to $6.99 but I received this courtesy of MyMochi. The box contains five pouches. Each pouch contains five waffle bites. The box touts that they're "naturally gluten-free."

The box only included instructions to thaw or warm these in the microwave (for just a few seconds) as these are meant for on-the-go convenient eating. I tried them both ways and there wasn't much of a change in texture or flavor between the two.

While these are called waffle bites, they're not waffle-like other than the grid appearance on one side; the other is smooth. They're more like denser, chewier pancakes with maple baked in. However, there's a slight powdery quality in terms of mouthfeel.

While there weren't any instructions for it, I also tried toasting a few Waffle Bites in my toaster oven. Given their size, I used the frozen waffle setting but for only half the time. They crisped up using this method but only on the waffle grid side. However, they still didn't feel like waffles as there was a craggy rather than smooth crust that was more like the crispy edges of a muffin.

At the end of the day, MyMochi Original Waffle Bites were just okay for me. The McGriddles-like flavor and portability were nice but, texture-wise, the waffle feel was not there. You might enjoy them if you are looking for mini pancakes with a chewy center.
