Review: Panera Bread - Pumpkin Cookie

Panera Bread's seasonal Pumpkin Cookie features a good-sized pumpkin-shaped shortbread cookie decorated with icing to look like a jack-o-lantern.

It's $1.69 for a cookie or discounted to $.99 if you buy a meal with a drink.

The shortbread was pretty good; not overly sweet with a soft, crumbly texture and a nice buttery richness. There's enough of it for two people if you don't mind sharing.

The icing was overkill though. It was slathered on thick and then piped into stripes on top. If that wasn't enough, the pumpkin's "face" is made of granulated sugar held in shape by a flavorless edible black skin. The skin stuck to the bag and some sugar got loose.

Basically, I liked the shortbread, but wanted to scrape off all the frosting. I'm sure if you have a huge sweet tooth, you'd like it fine though.
