Review: McDonald's - Holiday Mint McFlurry

McDonald's new Holiday Mint McFlurry is here for a limited time for the holidays with the taste of mint syrup, vanilla soft serve, and peppermint candy pieces.

A 12-ounce cup costs $2.49 at my local McDonald's.

Looking at my cup, you might notice that it wasn't blended so well, with some syrup still floating about on top. I stirred it a little bit before eating.

The peppermint candy pieces looked like red and green Fruity Pebbles to me (interestingly, McDonald's lists "corn cereal" among the candy's ingredients). I was expecting something like bits of candy cane, but these were a little like candy rocks. They added some crunchiness, but felt a bit waxy to me. I didn't care for the texture. The peppermint flavor was just about right though. Not too strong, nor weak.

The vanilla soft serve was smooth and creamy with a pleasant note of mint.

Overall, I liked the flavor of McDonald's Holiday Mint McFlurry, but didn't like the feel of the peppermint candy pieces. I would rather have something closer to an M&M's hard candy shell mixed in or just mint syrup and soft serve. The waxen texture of the candy was a little off-putting.

  1. Yeah, the texture of those candy pieces was a little weird... still, I thought the flavor was good. I was afraid that the peppermint flavor would be too strong and/or medicinal, but it wasn't at all.

This was a pretty good McFlurry, but it was no substitute for a Shamrock Shake.

  2. Just polished off a small...well, almost...after eyeing this up for weeks. I agree that the flavor itself is great...hits the spot after a juicy burger. But, the candy bits were very disappointing. Can't get that waxy texture out of my mouth! Give me the old fashioned crushed peppermints! Really wanted to like this, couldn't stick it out with those weird bits:(

I'm eating one right now. I like the flavor itself but the candy pieces are just disgusting texture wise. They give off a waxy feeling in one's mouth. Maybe next year it'll change...
