News: Coca-Cola's Mountain Dew AKA Surge is Back

Surge, Coca-Cola's answer to Pepsi's Mountain Dew, returns after a 12-year break, in part, due to a relatively small but passionate group of fans who have been lobbying online for its return.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to get your Surge fix at any supermarket; a limited supply of the drink is exclusively available in 12-packs of 16-oz cans from Amazon.com (also, it's currently sold out).

Surge is the first time Coke has returned a discontinued brand to market and the first drink they've ever offered exclusively for sale online. Interestingly, they're leaving the door open for other niche brands to possibly return via the same method (Coke with Lemon anyone?).

Basically, what it comes down to is Surge isn't popular enough to distribute to and sell in stores, but the company is going to see if it's popular enough to sell online as a niche product. This could open the door to new Coke flavors being sold online (perhaps one of the more popular combinations from a Coke Freestyle machine).
