Review: Wendy's - Bacon Queso Burger

Wendy's Bacon Queso Burger features a quarter-pound beef patty, fire-roasted salsa, red onions, thick-cut applewood-smoked bacon, shredded cheddar cheese, and poblano queso cheese sauce on a toasted red jalapeno bun.

I went and bought one for $4.69.

If you think a burger patty smothered in cheese is a great idea (and I do), the Bacon Queso Burger takes that idea and runs with it.

The burger was nice and juicy and topped with a messy layer of creamy, spicy cheese sauce. The cheese delivered a medium amount of heat joined by a taste similar to nacho cheese with notes of poblano peppers. I enjoyed it immensely.

The crunchy and decently-thick bacon added a nice smoky, salty quality.

The red onions had that watery crunch but the taste of them didn't manage to manage to break through versus the bacon and cheese (granted there was only two rings of onion in my particular burger). The salsa struggled likewise.

The red jalapeno bun reminded me more than a little of store-bought sliced wheat bread in texture, which is to say it was very soft and squishy. The jalapenos added extra heat but not flavor.

Overall, Wendy's Bacon Queso Burger offered plenty of cheesy beefy goodness and a swift kick of spicy heat in a simple but messy burger.
