Burger King's Steakhouse XT Burger features
a thick 7-ounce flame-broiled beef patty with mayo, crispy onions, A.1. Thick & Hearty Steak Sauce, a slice of American cheese, bits of lettuces, and two slices of tomato. A kingly feast for the kingly sum of
$4.79 (Get it? Because it's Burger
King! I can feel the eye rolls a-coming). It does not however get a kingly robe and is wrapped in plain wax paper unbecoming of a premium burger.
The A.1. Steakhouse XT was surprisingly good and more quality than I expect and receive from my local Burger King. The patty was thick, I wouldn't say juicy but moist, and had a good bit of char to it and grill marks. It was also seasoned a bit and saltier compared to your typical fast food patty. The tomatoes and lettuce were fairly fresh and while they didn't sing, they were present. Sometimes, I wonder if they save the better tomatoes and lettuce for their premium burgers.
I was quite surprised at the crispy battered and deep-fried onion pieces. They were actually crispy and didn't go soggy in the burger. There was a nice crunch to the burger because of it.
The A.1. sauce was nice and smoky. I liked it very much and appreciated that my burger maker didn't go too heavy with the sauce gun. I like it when my burger isn't dripping with sauce Carl's Jr. slogan be damned.
Between the limited-time
Smoky Cheddar Steakhouse XT and the A.1. Steakhouse XT, I would have to give the nod to the A.1. Steakhouse XT. It gave a bit more variety and was inexplicably smokier than the Smoky Cheddar. In short, A.1. > barbecue sauce.
Both are a little too much food for me but that's what friends and family are for.

I tried this a while back as we were a test market and I like a lot of parts of this sandwich. However, the combo of A1 and mayo gave it a wibia - "No." If I ever tried it again, I would hold the mayo. A pretty good effort form BK though...
ReplyDeleteA1 and burgers are the bomb! I usually add A1 instead of BBQ sauce for burgers (when I can) because it's that much better.
ReplyDelete@wibia: I thought the combo of A1 and mayo would bother me as well but it didn't. I think partially because they weren't too heavy with the sauce gun. (Haha, I think I will reuse that phrase again and again!)
ReplyDeleteyour LDL must be off the chain!
ReplyDeleteOne thing I would say is that unlike most fast food places, BK does not season their meat. So if the patty seems saltier it was probably just the crispy onions on the burger...which I usually order cheeseburgers with the A1sauce and crispy onions (no charge for either of those and its just as good) and thats when I can notice some slight salt. The smoky cheddar, contrary to popular belief, did not have BBQ sauce, rather it was a smoky BBQ (flavored) mayo that went on it.
