Review: The Hat - Chili Cheese Fries

The Hat's Chili Cheese Fries
One of my favorite things to eat at The Hat are the Chili Cheese Fries which features a thick paper serving tray filled with a freshly-fried batch of French fries, generously covered with shredded Cheddar cheese, and then smothered in the Hat's delicious all-meat chili.  One order is enough for at least two people and costs $4.79 for just Chili Fries.  The cheese is an extra 50 cents.  Tomatoes and pickles is also an optional topping for 20 cents.  A total of $5.49 plus tax.

It's the side that eats like a meal!  Obviously, not for the faint of heart.  As you can see, 20 cents buys you about a overflowing handful each of fresh diced tomatoes and pickle slices.  I figure if I was going to eat something this decadent, at least I'd get some healthy tomatoes in me.  For a super fatty feast, you can also get the Hat's Chili Cheese Fries topped with a heaping serving of pastrami.  I forget how much that costs, but it's at least several dollars.
A gooey, cheesy meaty fry
The fries come piping hot covered with wax paper; I steamed my thumb once when I accidentally stuck it under the paper while opening my car door.  Ouch!

A fork is a must when eating these fries, it is way too messy otherwise.  Since the fries are always freshly made, they are nice and crisp, but of course, they get soggy as everything mixes together into gooey, messy, goodness.  The blend of crisp fries, seasoned meat chili, fresh tomatoes, melted Cheddar, and crunchy pickles is just *drool*.  Just writing about it makes me want to go get some!
The Hat Chili Cheese Fries finished... mostly
Inexplicably, they've always have a regular paper fry tray at the bottom even though everything overflows onto the wax paper lining the serving tray.

  2. Do you ever get them with all that and pastrami, too? It runs about $12 but can feed three or four people.
