An 8.5-ounce box was $1.99.
The tamale about two-thirds the size of a frozen burrito but comes packed with some nice flavors and seasoning, although the Monterey Jack cheese appeared to be MIA.
The masa shell/crust was soft and moist, while the shredded beef inside was tender and flavorful. The enchilada sauce gave the tamale some extra zing and a touch of heat.
The rice was a bit sparse but tasty. It wasn't oily like I was expecting but was instead moist and a little overcooked (my fault, my microwave is pretty strong). The beans, corn, and peppers add variety and texture.
Overall, I enjoyed Safeway Select's Beef Tamale very much. It feels a bit on the light side but packs plenty of flavor.
