Review: Trader Joe's - Petite Mixed Berry Tart

Trader Joe's Petite Mixed Berry Tart features cranberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries in a "flaky, buttery crust."

The 12-ounce tart goes for $3.99.

It might be called a petite tart, but you can feed a fair number of people dessert with one of these. A little slice goes a long way.

The berries are a tart and tangy mix that don't feel overly sweetened with sugar. The blend felt a bit less sweet and more solid than pie filling.

I don't recommend eating a slice of this without warming it up. The crust is pretty soft and a little tasteless when cold or at room temperature. Spending some time in the toaster over gives it a slight bit of crispiness and draws out more of the flavors. Even warm, I wouldn't describe it as flaky or buttery though.

There's a sweet crumble on top that also tastes better warm but still ends up feeling a little soggy.

Overall, Trader Joe's Petite Mixed Berry Tart has a nice enough filling but the crust was fairly lackluster. I would have liked something crispier or flakier and definitely more butter.
