Frozen Friday: Lean Cuisine - Pomegranate Chicken

Lean Cuisine's Pomegranate Chicken features white meat chicken strips, seasoned green beans, and yellow carrots in a pomegranate sauce.

A 7.5-oz box was $2 on sale.

They kept it pretty simple with this one. It's just three components and sauce. The chicken, green beans, and carrots are common enough in a number of Lean Cuisine meal varieties so it's left to the sauce to differentiate the Pomegranate Chicken from the pack.

Fortunately, the sauce managed a definite fruity and tangy pomegranate flavor and a fair amount of sweetness. There's a bit of plum in there too. I half-thought it would be just your standard sweet and sour sauce with either pineapple or orange. It was also well-balanced and not too sweet nor too tangy.

The chicken didn't fare as well. It was a little too firm and not all that flavorful or juicy. I've had much better chicken from Lean Cuisine.

The green beans and carrots were fairly standard. They offered a light flavor and tasted like if you boiled it but not to the point of mushiness.

Overall, Lean Cuisine's Pomegranate Chicken was decent. The sauce was good but the rest was all very ho-hum.
