Review: Taco Bell - Chili Cheese Fries Loaded Griller

Taco Bell's Chili Cheese Fries Loaded Griller is being tested in my area and comes with a new chili, crispy potatoes bites, and warm nacho sauce wrapped up in a flour tortilla and grilled.

I picked one up for 79 cents (a test price to spur sampling; if it goes to market you can expect it to be more in line with the other Grillers at $1.29).

Update 1/23/14 - These made it through test and are now available for a limited time at $1 a pop.

I liked the chili inside the Griller a lot. It's a beef chili with the same consistency as Taco Bell's seasoned ground beef but with an entirely different taste. It's got a robust and hearty chili flavor with just a bit of a spicy kick.

It goes really well with the potatoes and warm nacho cheese and the three components were portioned with just the right balance.

The crispy potatoes weren't crispy at all but the lightly seasoned flavor meshed well with the chili and there's a substantial potato taste in each bite.

The cheese was a thick, creamy warm sauce with a mild flavor. It tempered the heavier seasoned flavors of the chili and potatoes.

The grilling on this visit didn't quite hold to well and the flour tortilla ended up mostly soft. It seems a bit hit-or-miss but occasionally, I get a really beautiful crispy layer on my grilled burrito.

Overall, Taco Bell's Chili Cheese Fries Loaded Griller was just like getting some tasty chili cheese fries wrapped up inside a tortilla and that is plenty good in my book (especially at the 79 cent test price).
