News: New Tostitos Artisan Recipes Grilled Red Pepper and Tomato Salsa Chips

Frito Lay is offering their line of Tostitos Artisan Recipes tortilla chips in a new flavor: Grilled Red Pepper and Tomato Salsa.

The new chips are purported to draw their inspiration from the "layered flavors of a rich Mexican mole sauce." Mole can be somewhat varied in Mexican cuisine, and in this case, Frito Lay's ingredients include ancho chile, smoked paprika, garlic, onion, roasted bell peppers, sundried tomato, and lime.

Tostitos Artisan Recipes chips are made with a nine-grain blend and contain 8 grams of whole grains per serving.

Tostitos Artisan Recipes Grilled Red Pepper and Tomato Salsa tortilla chips are available nationwide in a 9.75-ounce bag for a suggested retail price of $3.99 each.

  1. I don't know where they got their inspiration for this one... But it ain't Mole! I happen to know because I'm Mexican (not Mexican-American but a 100% Mexicano living in Mexico city BTW) Mole would never have lime juice, paprika or sundried tomato. If they wanted to borrow elements from mole, they should use chocolate, peanuts, chile ancho..

  2. I'm not even sure why they mentioned mole. I'd expect from the name that the chips would just taste like tomato salsa...
