Review: Arby's - Auntie Anne's Cheddar Pretzel Nuggets

Arby's teamed up with Auntie Anne's to offer new Cheddar Pretzel Nuggets for a limited time. They're mini salted pretzel nuggets filled with a warm cheddar cheese sauce.

I picked up an order of 5 for $1.99.

Apparently, these are baked fresh daily at each location. They didn't feel that fresh though and were lukewarm. The crumb was a little dry but the pretzel flavor was spot on. There was just the right amount of salt too.

Inside, the cheddar cheese sauce was more like a solid mass. It tasted the same and had the same consistency as the processed cheese in Handi-Snacks. It's a touch of childhood nostalgia to be sure, but not exactly what I was looking for here, and certainly not what I want inside of a warm pretzel.

I tried microwaving the nuggets for about 8 seconds, hoping to get some gooey cheese. But, while the cheese was piping hot, it still managed to remain quite solid. Maybe it would have been better to provide a warm cheese dipping sauce like you get at Auntie Anne's.

Overall, Arby's Auntie Anne's Cheddar Pretzel Nuggets were just okay for me. The pretzel taste was great but felt reheated and the cheese "sauce" didn't really work. Still, the price isn't too bad at $1.99 compared to almost $4 for an Auntie Anne's pretzel around here. I'll stick to the original though.
