Frozen Friday: Haagen-Dazs - Peanut Butter Pie Ice Cream

Haagen-Dazs' Peanut Butter Pie ice cream is a limited-edition flavor featuring peanut butter ice cream with a peanut butter swirl and chocolate cookie pieces.

I bought a 14-oz container for $2.99.

If you love peanut butter, this might be the ice cream for you; it's got peanut butter in spades plus a little chocolate. It's like a slight opposite of their Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor.

The peanut butter swirl is still the literal peanut butter swirl of the other flavor. But it's a bit scaled back and more dispersed, which results in an easier-to-scoop consistency (read: not rock hard) but still a great deal of peanut butter flavor.

The peanut butter ice cream echoes the same flavor but with a quieter note and a rich dose of cream.

It's peanut butter all around until you come across one of the chocolate cookie pieces, which is the same soft chocolaty, slightly bittersweet stuff you find in cookies 'n cream ice cream. They serve as a punctuation to the peanut butter rather than an ever-present companion.

Overall, Peanut Butter Pie ice cream is great for peanut butter enthusiasts but might be a bit too much for everyone else, especially if you're seeking a more varied flavor. I love peanut butter--I'll eat it straight off the spoon--so it's wonderful for me.
