Review: Krispy Kreme - Brownie Batter Donut

Krispy Kreme's new Brownie Batter Donut features a chocolate yeast shell donut with a brownie batter filling, topped with chocolate icing and mini chocolate chips.

For whatever reason, they only had plain yeast shell donuts when I went so that's what I got. It cost $1.19.
Even without the chocolate yeast shell donut, there's a lot of chocolate going on here. From the milk chocolaty icing to the chocolate chips on top and the rich chocolaty brownie batter filling, I didn't lament the lack of  the chocolate shell too much.

I was surprised that the filling was about as liquid as actual brownie batter and spilled forth when I cut into the donut. There's a nice, deep chocolaty flavor to it but there were also tiny granules of what I'm guessing was undissolved sugar. It seems someone didn't mix it too well. Still, some might like the added texture.

The yeast shell was squishy soft and moist. It was actually a nice respite from all the chocolate.

The mini chocolate chips were pretty tasty but tended to fall off a lot (five second rule!). The icing was mostly sweet (maybe a little too sweet) with a light cocoa flavor.

Overall, Krispy Kreme's Brownie Batter Donut was a fine donut especially if you like your chocolate with more chocolate.
