Review: Tastykake - Salted Caramel Mini Donuts

Tastykake's Salted Caramel Mini Donuts are a limited-time flavor that consist of plain, mini cake donuts covered in a caramel and salt-flavored crumble.

These go for $2.99 for a 10-oz bag, but I received these courtesy of Tastykake (Tastykakes aren't typically available here on the West Coast unless you happen on a Philly cheesesteak shop or something).

The donuts were firm and a bit on the dry side. I'm used to mini donuts being somewhat moist and a little spongy (but I haven't had any in a long time). They were mailed to me, so I wonder if that had anything to do with it (if any of you guys on the East Coast have tried Tastykake's mini donuts, please let me know below if the dryness is typical).

On the plus side, the crumb was also dry and, while not crunchy, delivered a nice crumbly texture.

Flavor-wise, there's a sweet (but not too sweet) caramel note that I found pretty novel and enjoyable. On the tail end, there's a notable dash of salt.

Overall, I enjoyed the flavor of Tastykake's Salted Caramel Mini Donuts but wished they had a bit more moisture to them.
