Review: Arby's - Brown Sugar Bacon BLT

Arby's Brown Sugar Bacon BLT features three strips of pepper bacon, three strips of brown sugar bacon plus lettuce, tomato, and mayo on a King's Hawaiian bun.

I picked one up for $5.69.

Arby's does bacon pretty well so there's a risk here of messing up a good thing. The bacon was generally crisp with a nice smoky flavor. The brown sugar bacon takes their regular pepper bacon and sprinkles with brown sugar before baking/cooking.

With the half-to-half ratio, the bacon went a little bit too far to the sweet side. I guess if you're looking for sweet and savory rather than savory with a hint of sweetness, you might be good here. It was a little overwhelming for me. Also, the brown sugar caramelized into a chewy glaze at some parts, which negated the crispiness somewhat. Then again, the sugar also added crunchy bits.

The sweet King's Hawaiian bun also ups the sweetness level a little but is otherwise very nice with a dense, soft but sturdy cushion for the sandwich.

The lettuce and tomatoes were fresh and of good quality.

Overall, Arby's Brown Sugar Bacon BLT was just too sweet for me. I think I would have enjoyed it more with just one strip of brown sugar bacon or maybe even just all regular bacon with the King's Hawaiian bun (although I suppose they couldn't really call it a "brown sugar" sandwich at that point). Still, if you like a lot of sweet with your savory, you might want to give it a go as the quality is there.
