Review: Taco Bell - Cap'n Crunch Delights

Taco Bell's Cap’n Crunch Delights are red-colored, yeast donut-holes filled with sweet milk icing and coated with Cap’n Crunch’s Crunch Berries cereal.

I picked up two for $1.

The sweet milk icing isn't as rich as the cream cheese icing of the Cinnabon Delights. It's more reminiscent of cereal milk, at least when you get a gob of it by itself, but some of the effect is lost when eating the Cap'n Crunch Delight as a whole.

I got these late at night and it seemed like they might have been sitting for a while as the dough was a little on the dry side. While brightly red, the dough portion is the same as if you somehow managed to get a warm, plain, unglazed yeast donut (yes, I've done this just to try). So if you were hoping the donut holes itself tastes like Crunch Berries, you'll be sadly disappointed.

It's only the coating of crushed Crunch Berries that provides that sweet berry-ish flavor and, sadly, my particular Delights seemed to have lost most of it somewhere in the process. Still, I got a hint of the childhood flavor here and there. I wonder if the flavor would still come across if they ground the Crunch Berries finer so that they'd be more prone to adhering to the donuts. These worked out better when I got to preview them.

Overall, Taco Bell's Cap'n Crunch Delights were tasty enough but, despite the appearance, the general lack of Crunch Berries left me wanting for the namesake flavor and texture.
