Review: Wendy's - Jalapeno Ghost Pepper Fries

Wendy's Jalapeno Ghost Pepper Fries feature an order of Wendy's Natural Cut Fries topped with diced, fresh jalapenos, warm cheddar cheese sauce, and ghost pepper sauce.

They're going for $1.99 an order in my neighborhood but I received this courtesy of Wendy's.

Like lot of fast food joints, the topped fries are sealed in the container without any venting so that the fries go soggy in short order unless you're dining in.

The fry-to-topping ratio was pretty good and I never felt like I had to ration the cheese or jalapenos, but they also weren't so abundant that I had to go hunting for potatoes.

For the most part, the Jalapeno Ghost Pepper Fries felt a lot like nacho fries. The ghost pepper sauce offers a creamy tanginess with a decent kick and mixed with the cheddar cheese to provide the same effect as a mildly spicy nacho cheese.

The difference-maker was the fresh jalapenos, which offered a fresh chili pepper flavor but the same amount of heat as you'd get with the pickled jalapenos you usually find on nachos.

Overall, Wendy's Jalapeno Ghost Pepper Fries were enjoyable and make for a pretty affordable order of nacho-style fries. I especially liked the addition of the fresh jalapenos, which served to set the dish apart from similar offerings. If you're looking for a lot of heat though, it's really not going to set your mouth aflame.
