Review: Del Taco - Bacon Chipotle Cheddar Fries

Del Taco's Bacon Chipotle Cheddar Fries feature crinkle-cut fries topped with chipotle sauce, diced tomatoes, bits of bacon, and shredded cheddar cheese.

I picked up an order for $2.99.

While the chipotle may work as an accent on some of Del Taco's menu items, it didn't quite hit the mark for me here as a main attraction. There's a tanginess and smokiness to it but a weird base that I never noticed before and didn't care for.

The crinkle-cut fries were crisp and with their thickness, held up really well to being topped.

The cheese and bacon weren't exactly plentiful but the cheese was nicely melted and the bacon was crisp with a decent smokiness to it. The tomatoes were fairly ripe with a very mild flavor.

Overall, Del Taco's Bacon Chipotle Cheddar Fries didn't work for me on account of the chipotle sauce, which just didn't hit the right notes. Just plain bacon cheddar fries would have worked out better (the sliced avocado option they recently added to the menu would work too). Del Taco's usual value isn't apparent here either; Wendy's similar offering delivers much of the same for a buck less.
