Review: El Pollo Loco - Shredded Beef Quesadilla

El Pollo Loco's limited-time Shredded Beef Quesadilla takes shredded Jack cheese, shredded beef, chipotle cream, shredded cabbage, and avocado slices, and wraps them with a grilled flour tortilla folded into a hexagon (basically the same fold as Taco Bell's Crunchwrap Supreme).

These were being offered at $5.49 each.

The beef is tender (perhaps overly so), really salty, and while seasoned, is a bit disappointing in the flavor (it reminded me of my elementary school cafeteria food when I was a kid; it wasn't bad, but I'm sure it's not what the Crazy Chicken was going for).

It's good then that the Shredded Beef Quesadilla contains a very good amount of avocado slices to add a buttery creaminess as well as helping to balance out the saltiness of the beef.

The grilling added a nice thin crust to the quesadilla, but sadly, the foil bag it came in pretty much guaranteed it became soft during the short drive home.

For a quesadilla, there wasn't that much cheese to it. The cheese was fairly mellow and I didn't notice it much. The cabbage added a welcomed bit of crispness and the chipotle cream added a bit of heat.

While there were some shortcomings with El Pollo Loco's Shredded Beef Quesadilla, it was the most enjoyable of their shredded beef trio. I still much prefer the similar chicken version of the same though.

  1. That's a hefty portion of avocado, especially for a fast food chain!
