Review: Jack in the Box - Hot Mess Potato Wedges

Jack in the Box's new Hot Mess Wedges feature lightly battered and fried potato wedges topped with melted white cheddar, pepper jack, and jalapenos.

An order was $2.79 at my local Jack in the Box.

The wedges were fried perfectly and must have been a fresh batch. There was a light, delicate thin and oh-so-crispy shell to each piece that gave way to moist potato inside. The seasoning veers on the light side but remains enough to keep it interesting without being overly salty.

The cheeses were oozing in a gooey mass and wasn't spicy at all. It's thicker than your typical nacho cheese but seemed like there might be some cream or milk mixed in. It was tasty, mellow, and extra creamy. It would also go nice in a mac and cheese dish, sprinkled with some bacon or bread crumbs.

The heat isn't too high on this one as it only comes from the slightly pickled jalapenos slices, which deliver a tangy puff of heat that quickly dissipates against the creaminess of the cheese. There were maybe five or six slices in all.

Overall, I enjoyed these a great deal. Crispy potato wedges with creamy cheese and just a touch of heat makes for some tasty eats.
