Review: Nabisco - Birthday Cake Oreo Cookies

Last year, the Oreo cookie celebrated its 100th birthday and introduced Birthday Cake Oreos with a birthday cake flavored creme filling interspersed with rainbow cake sprinkles. The Oreo is now 101 years old and you can still get Birthday Cake Oreos, so I thought I'd give them a try.

A 15.25-ounce package sells for $2.99.

While they're called "Birthday Cake Oreos," they're more like "Cake Frosting Oreos." When I first opened the package I was immediately struck by the aroma of vanilla cake frosting (the kind you get at the supermarket).

If you like the taste of vanilla cake frosting, you get a decent bit of it with these Oreos. You don't really feel the sprinkles in the frosting, but they add a little bit of flavor to the creme. The creme itself is pretty soft and smooth.

The flavor pairs fairly well with the chocolaty taste of an Oreo sandwich wafer.

But the ultimate question for Birthday Cake Oreos is really "do you like cake frosting?" Because that's really the star here. I tend to find supermarket cake frosting to veer on the overly-sweet side, but it works out okay for me here. I find the cookies interesting, but I still would choose regular Oreos over them.

  2. You can get it at Amazon here in the U.S. but I think they have a different site for Korea. eBay is also possible but I think that might be expensive. Your best bet is to find a Korean site that imports U.S. foods.
